Windows to the Sea: Creating a Mixed-Media Artist Book

  • Pacific NorthWest Art School 15 Northwest Birch Street Coupeville, WA, 98239 United States (map)

Create a book inspired by the landscapes and seascapes of the Pacific Northwest!

Gather with me in the spring at Pacific NorthWest Art School on Whidbey Island in Washington state, and I will teach you my favorite mixed-media techniques and guide you in creating your own artist book. We will spend three glorious days relishing in nature and art making.

We will work on watercolor paper for your book pages, but we’ll also be glazing and mark-making on deli-paper, then using these colorful creations for collaging. As you begin constructing your books, you’ll give them a new dimension by cutting and tearing windows out of the pages. These portals will give a view of the next pages and make your books even more layered and unique.

To finish, we will add embellishments, stitching and weaving your windows and binding your books together with wire and a piece of driftwood for the spine. You will go home filled with inspiration and holding a beautiful, unique artist book that you love!
